A 16th century pictorial annal of the Mexica migration from Aztlan
The initial scene depicts the departure of the Nahua tribes from the island of Aztlan. Crossing the lake, they arrive at Colhuacan where they are addressed by Huitzilopochtli, who is lodged in a cave, perhaps Chicomoztoc. Aztlan consists of a temple surrounded by four houses, perhaps representing calpolli.
